Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 6, 2026 · Last updated: July 6, 2026

Summary: Hai stores your onboarding choices and conversation history to power your AI companion. Your messages are sent to third-party AI providers to generate responses. You can request deletion of all your data at any time by emailing [email protected].

1. Who We Are

Hai ("hai," "we," "us," or "our") is an AI companion service operated by Hai Global Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information about you when you use our website and application at hai.app (the "Service").

Data controller contact: [email protected]

2. Who Can Use Hai

Hai is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user is under 18, we will delete their account and data immediately. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at [email protected].

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information You Provide

3.2 Information We Derive

3.3 Information Collected Automatically

4. How We Store Your Data

Your data (onboarding profile, conversation history, runtime state) is stored on our servers as structured files. This data is not end-to-end encrypted — it is readable by our infrastructure. We use commercially reasonable security practices to protect it, but no storage method is 100% secure.

Your browser localStorage stores your user identifier only — no message content is stored in your browser.

5. Third-Party AI Providers

Important: When you send a message, its content is transmitted to one or more external AI providers to generate your companion's response. These providers can see your message text and may also see your companion's profile context.

Current AI providers we use:

Each provider has its own data use policies. We recommend reviewing them. We do not sell your data to these providers; they process your messages solely to generate AI responses.

6. How We Use Your Information

7. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We share data only in these limited circumstances:

8. International Data Transfers

Hai is a global service. Your data may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our AI providers operate, including countries whose data protection laws may differ from your own.

For users in the European Union/EEA: Transfers are made pursuant to Standard Contractual Clauses or other GDPR-compliant mechanisms where applicable.

For users in China: Messages routed to Zhipu AI are processed within China under China's PIPL. Other AI providers operate outside China. If you are in China and wish to limit cross-border data transfers, contact us at [email protected].

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 10). After deletion, we may retain anonymized, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond to all requests within 30 days.

11. Cookie and localStorage Use

Hai uses your browser's localStorage (not traditional cookies) to store your user identifier across sessions. This is essential to the Service — without it, we cannot associate your conversations with you.

We do not currently use third-party tracking cookies or advertising trackers. If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required, obtain your consent. See our Cookie Policy for details.

12. Children's Privacy

Hai is not intended for, and does not knowingly collect information from, anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the Service, contact us immediately at [email protected].

13. Jurisdictional Notices

European Union / EEA (GDPR)

The legal basis for processing your data is your consent (given at onboarding) and our legitimate interest in providing the Service. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know, delete, and opt-out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, email [email protected].

United Kingdom (UK GDPR)

UK residents have the same rights as EU residents above. You may contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) with complaints.

Canada (PIPEDA)

Canadian residents may contact our privacy officer at [email protected] to access, correct, or delete their personal information.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post a notice in the app and update the effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
