Hai uses localStorage (a browser storage mechanism similar to cookies) rather than HTTP cookies. This is functionally equivalent for identity purposes but does not involve sending data with every HTTP request the way cookies do.
| Key | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
hai_uid |
Your randomly-generated user identifier. Without this, we cannot associate your conversations with you across sessions. | Until you clear browser storage | Strictly necessary |
hai_gate_ok |
Records that you have successfully entered a valid access code, so you are not prompted again on return. | Until you clear browser storage | Strictly necessary |
We use Google Analytics 4 on our website and web app to understand how people find and use Hai. It sets Google's own cookies (_ga and related) and records:
We deliberately do not send Google any content or anything that identifies you personally: no email address, no password, no display name, no companion names, and no message text. Invite and referral codes are stripped from the page addresses we report. Analytics tells us how many people took a step, never who they were or what they said.
We do not use:
You can opt out of Google Analytics in any browser with Google's opt-out add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser or an extension. Hai works normally either way.
Because localStorage is strictly necessary to identify you within the Service, we do not offer an opt-out of localStorage while using Hai.
You can clear localStorage at any time through your browser settings (usually under Settings → Privacy → Clear site data). Note that clearing it will log you out and your local session will no longer be linked to your account. Contact [email protected] if you need your stored data exported or deleted beforehand.
Under GDPR, "strictly necessary" storage does not require prior consent. The localStorage entries above are strictly necessary to provide the authenticated Service you have requested. No consent banner is required for these.
Google Analytics cookies are not strictly necessary, and under the EU ePrivacy Directive and GDPR they require prior consent from visitors in the EU/EEA and UK. We have not yet implemented a consent banner. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK and do not want these cookies set, please use Google's opt-out add-on or block analytics cookies in your browser until we ship one. You can also write to [email protected] and we will confirm removal of any analytics data associated with your visits.
Hai is a small early-stage product and we would rather state this plainly than imply a compliance posture we have not yet built.
We will update this page if our storage practices change. The effective date at the top reflects the latest revision.
